Back in 2008 Japanese Streetwear masters Neighborhood teamed up with the folks over at NGAP for a collection named "Dirty Harry'. The collection was mainly clothing based however one of the items released was this beautiful glass chamber.
The actual chamber you see in the pictures is the 2009 addition. The 2008 collection featured a clear glass chamber whereas in 2009 they switched to a brown colorway.
This chamber was a grail of mine for some time. I spent a lot of time searching for it but due to its age and rarity my hopes were fading away until one day I was able to secure one from Japan secondhand. I couldn’t have been happier! I also managed to secure it for a reasonable price tag (These chambers can fetch up to £300).
As you can see the chamber is themed as a poison bottle but features multiple holes to allow smoke to release. The rear of the bottle is inscribed with “R.I.P - Handle with care” and the front features a skull and cross bones with NGAP and Neighborhood branding.
The way this chamber works is you place your lit incense stick through the opening at the top then secure in place with either a cork or in my case a Japanese coin. The stick will then dangle and because of it being upside down; start to produce a lot of smoke.
The smoke then starts to pour out the holes, mainly the holes located at the bottom as the smoke settles. As you can see it looks fantastic and really is a treat on the eyes.
What I love about this chamber is the way Neighborhood opted for glass over their usual Kaolin Clay. I would love to see glass used in my more of their products in the future.
