I first smelt the Amber scent back in 2014 when I purchased a box of Nippon Kodo - Morning Star. I instantly fell in love with it. It had so much presence and was unlike any scent I had smelt before, very distinct.
As you can imagine I was very excited to pick up Kuumba’s take on the wonderful Amber scent and see what direction they went in.
Sadly, this scent doesn't live up to the hype that I had built up in my head. It smells nothing like the Nippon Kodo version. This could mean that the Nippon Kodo version could be an exaggerated, artificial scent maybe?
Now, that’s not to say this is a bad scent. It’s just different to what I had in mind. It’s a low musky scent with woody qualities. A nice scent for the evenings whilst unwinding. It does lack all uplifting qualities though, there is no floral notes, no fruity zing. This is just a classic musky scent.
Overall I am quite disappointed. But don't let that put you off trying this scent out for yourself as it certainly doesn't lack quality, it’s just a bit too dark for me.
In fact this smells like traditional Japanese incense which I am a massive fan of, just not when I’m burning Kuumba. When I choose Kuumba brand I am after a different style of scent selection.
Scent: Musky, dark.
